“Che cos’è il genio? È fantasia, intuizione, decisione e velocità d’esecuzione”. Forse nessuna frase, tratta dal celeberrimo film “Amici miei” (film del 1975 con Ugo Tognazzi e regia di Mario Monicelli), si presta meglio a descrivere l’incredibile storia di Nello Carotenuto, ventunenne di Poggiomarino (NA), laureando in Informatica presso l’Università degli Studi di Salerno. Carotenuto è risultato, infatti, vincitore di un importante concorso di creatività lanciato dall’Adidas per contribuire alla realizzazione della divisa da gioco del Manchester United, club del quale è tifoso. Ecco l’intervista che ci ha gentilmente concesso.

Com’è nata l’idea di partecipare al contest?

“Sono coinvolto nel Red Army Italy Manchester United Supporters Club Italia. Siamo in stretto contatto con la società attraverso reciproci scambi di messaggi di posta elettronica. In virtù di questa corsia privilegiata, abbiamo saputo con un po’ di anticipo che vi era questa possibilità di contribuire alla realizzazione della maglia da gioco della squadra per la corrente stagione sportiva. Ho, pertanto, deciso di tentare la sorte.

Quali sono state le modalità attraverso le quali hai preso parte al concorso e quali vincoli hai dovuto rispettare?

“L’Adidas ci ha detto che avremmo dovuto lavorare sulla terza divisa da gioco per le gare di campionato, da usare sporadicamente anche nelle gare di Champions League, con un “template” (modello predefinito che consente di creare o inserire contenuti di diverso tipo) avente i seguenti vincoli: mantenere inalterato il layout del colletto a girocollo, così come il colore (grigio, ndr) ed il logo, avendo, però, la facoltà di apportare modifiche al pannello anteriore, sul fianco o sulle maniche. Personalmente ho scelto di operare sul pannello anteriore, posizionando, sotto allo sponsor principale, sul petto, il disegno stilizzato della statua della ‘Holy Trinity’ che si trova ai piedi dell’Old Trafford: si tratta di una raffigurazione in bronzo del magico trio formato da George Best, Denis Law e Sir Bobby Charlton inaugurata nel 2008, un terzetto formidabile che regalò allo United la Coppa Campioni del 1968. Ho pensato che la maglia potesse piacere alla luce della ricorrenza da quel successo che si celebra in questa stagione sportiva (saranno trascorsi esattamente 50 anni, ndr) ed evidentemente la mia idea è stata recepita positivamente. Temevo che la maglia potesse avere un brutto effetto in seguito ad una elevata sudorazione degli atleti, ma l’Adidas mi ha garantito che ciononostante il colore grigio avrebbe mantenuto la sua tonalità predefinita”.

Quali calciatori hanno apprezzato maggiormente la divisa che hai creato?

“Lingard e Blind mi sono sembrati particolarmente compiaciuti, così come Pogba mi è davvero parso entusiasta di poter indossare la nuova maglia. Ha voluto esprimersi con me in italiano, manifestandomi la sua felicità per il layout della divisa. Inoltre si è reso protagonista di un bellissimo fuori programma. Nel corso del viaggio che mi ha condotto a Los Angeles presso il ritiro della squadra impegnata nella tournèe americana, ho smarrito i bagagli durante lo scalo a New York. Quando il delegato Adidas lo ha informato di questa mia problematica, si è prodigato per farmi avere materiale ufficiale dello United e mi ha autografato una maglia da casa scrivendo ‘Grande lavoro amico’ ”.

Com’è nata la passione per i Red Devils?

“Nacque più di dieci anni fa quando ebbi modo di apprezzare le gesta dei ragazzi allora allenati da Ferguson contro Milan e Roma. Poi il crescente interesse verso il club dovuto all’ascesa inarrestabile di Cristiano Ronaldo ha fatto sì che ne divenissi tifoso sfegatato. Allora io ed un gruppo di amici, avendo riscontrato l’assenza di un supporters club italiano riconosciuto ufficialmente dal Manchester, inoltrammo la richiesta alla società, con l’auspicio di ottenere una certificazione ufficiale. Il 4 febbraio 2011 questo sogno è divenuto realtà e dal 31 luglio 2013 siamo il punto di riferimento italiano per i tifosi dei Red Devils”.

Sei mai stato all’Old Trafford?

“Sì, nel 2014. Purtroppo mi capitò di assistere ad una sconfitta interna contro il Sunderland. Mi ritengo ugualmente fortunato, avendo ammirato le gesta della squadra nel periodo in cui Giggs, essendo stato da poco esonerato Moyes, prese ad interim le redini del gruppo. L’Old Trafford è davvero ‘Il Teatro dei Sogni’. Mai soprannome può risultare maggiormente calzante: è imponente e trasuda storia da ogni seggiolino”.

Qual è stata la più bella soddisfazione da tifoso dello United?

“La Champions League vinta a Mosca nel 2008 contro il Chelsea ai rigori”.

Tra Ferguson e Mourinho chi preferisci?

“Ovviamente Sir Alex. Ha fatto la storia del club. Mourinho è il tecnico che per carisma si presta meglio alla sua sostituzione”.

Simpatizzi per qualche altro club di calcio?

“No, tifo soltanto per il Manchester United”.

Perché il calcio inglese è più bello di quello italiano?

“C’è meno tatticismo, è più spettacolare ed ogni anno tante squadre possono ambire al titolo. Quest’anno spero possa essere il nostro turno”.

A quali calciatori del passato e del presente sei maggiormente affezionato?

“Tra quelli che si sono ritirati dall’attività agonistica, dico Neville, Giggs e Scholes, mentre Carrick e Valencia sono tra i miei idoli dello United di oggi. Mi è dispiaciuto che Rooney sia andato via, ma credo che il ritorno all’Everton sia stata la scelta migliore da intraprendere”.

Hai ricevuto, infine, le felicitazioni da parte dell’Ateneo di Salerno?

“Il Magnifico Rettore Aurelio Tommasetti ci ha tenuto a congratularsi di persona per il prestigioso riconoscimento che ho avuto, un successo internazionale che, a suo dire, dà ulteriore lustro alla nostra Università”.

Carotenuto has, in fact, been the winner of a major creativity contest launched by Adidas to help create the Manchester United football club, which is a fan club. Here is the interview that kindly granted us.

How was the idea of ​​participating in the contest?

“I’m involved in Red Army Italy’s Manchester United Supporters Club Italia. We are in close contact with the company through reciprocal exchanges of emails. By virtue of this privileged lane, we knew with a little anticipation that there was this possibility to contribute to the realization of the team’s jersey for the current season. So I decided to try the fate.

What were the ways you participated in the competition and what constraints you had to comply with?
